The Art Stop LLC is a fine art supply store with a custom frame shop, art gallery, and a studio for art lessons for adults and children. We are proud to be a locally owned, small business in Penfield, NY. Fully employed by artists, we offer art lessons and classes for a variety of different interests. We also have Stop, Paint & Sip workshops where we provide the wine, food, and art supplies and all you have to bring is yourself! Art camp, private events, and birthday parties are also conducted in our studio.

Basic art concepts are introduced at an age-appropriate level, preparing the student for creative art class, when they are ready. A smock or apron is recommended for this class.

    Course Description: Based on individual interests, students can explore modern direct painting techniques and/or the old master techniques with modern oil painting materials. This class will develop or enhance your artistry and give you the necessary skills to successfully finish a panting within the scheduled sessions. Together we will complete a value study under-painting, direct painting and glazing. These techniques will be applied using your own photos as reference. Students will need to bring at least 6 of their own photographs 4″ x 3″ or larger to use as reference for their original art work. iPads work great to take photographs and use as your reference.

    Course Design (breakdown of class time):

    Class 1- Composition, Color harmony value drawing, materials
    Class 2- Value Study
    Class 3- Under painting
    Class 4- Direct Painting
    Class 5- Glazing
    Class 6-“Chiaro Scuro” (light dark), “sfumato” (gradation of tone), lost edges…, and varnishing

    • Supply List
    • Drawing pad and pencil
    • Canvas 8 x 10 preferred, no larger than 16 x 20
    • If you have oil paints, bring in what you have and the instructor will go thru them with you and let you know what you need. If you do not have any paints wait until after the 1st class and Rosa will help you select the colors you need according to your still life.
    • Thinner and medium: Either Gamsol and Galkyd (preferred) or Walnut oil
    • Walnut oil medium

She will show you the layering structure, and techniques including salt resist, masking fluid, lifting and more, all in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Kaylinda will work with the class as a group and spend time individually with each student. Beginner to intermediate. Teen-Adult. Supplies: Bring something to do a tonal sketch & your watercolor supplies, Kaylinda will go through supplies with you and let you know if you need anything additional on the first class.

    $169.00 Fridays 11:15-1:15 6 weeks- 1/19/18- 3/2/18, skip 2/23 Jorge Silva, landscape painter, portrait painter, illustrator and honors graduate of the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California will be teaching a daytime oil painting class at the Art Stop. In this intro to oils class basic important subjects will be introduced such as composition, design, color mixing, color relationships, lighting and interpretation of subject matter. Students can work from a still life set up that will present all the challenges to learn the basics or choose to paint a landscape or portrait of their choosing. On the last session each painting will be critiqued so that the student can advance with more knowledge, confidence and experience in oil painting.

    • Flat palette, can be disposable
    • Rags or paper towels
    • Brushes, bring what you have for instructor to review if you don’t have any, hold off till first class
    • Paints, bring what you have depending on subject matter, you can fill in from open stock

Learn about the many different mediums and what they can do for you to enhance your paintings. Learn about working with color, contrast, composition and negative space, all in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Beginner to Intermediate. Supplies: Bring something to do a tonal study (if you want to transfer your sketch onto your canvas, make your paper the same size as the canvas you wish to paint) Reference material is optional, we have many photo reference as well as still life material. Bring the acrylic supplies you have and Cindy will go through your supplies with you to see if you need anything additional after she sees your subject matter.     WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

     Chinese “Lingnon” school watercolors
    This style encourages the student to paint freely and expressively.

     The class is designed to help you work more spontaneously.

     The “rice”or cotton paper used in the class is made to be brushed quickly.

     You will learn techniques meant to make the maximum statement, with a minimum of brush strokes.

    Use colors /paper you have, or check materials list below:
    Chinese chip colors are available through oriental art supply, Holbein are the closest in tube colors.
    -A felt blanket , old linen tablecloth or towel  

    -Two water buckets
    -A palette for mixing colors
    -Small spray bottles for water and paint
    -I use sable brushes- small 6
    medium 10-and large. Kosinski sable are best
    for western watercolor paper.

    Course Description: Based on individual interests, students can explore modern direct painting techniques and/or the old master techniques with modern oil painting materials. This class will develop or enhance your artistry and give you the necessary skills to successfully finish a panting within the scheduled sessions. Together we will complete a value study under-painting, direct painting and glazing. These techniques will be applied using your own photos as reference. Students will need to bring at least 6 of their own photographs 4″ x 3″ or larger to use as reference for their original art work. iPads work great to take photographs and use as your reference.

    Course Design (breakdown of class time):

    Class 1- Composition, Color harmony value drawing, materials
    Class 2- Value Study
    Class 3- Under painting
    Class 4- Direct Painting
    Class 5- Glazing
    Class 6-“Chiaro Scuro” (light dark), “sfumato” (gradation of tone), lost edges…, and varnishing

    • Supply List
    • Drawing pad and pencil
    • Canvas 8 x 10 preferred, no larger than 16 x 20
    • If you have oil paints, bring in what you have and the instructor will go thru them with you and let you know what you need. If you do not have any paints wait until after the 1st class and Rosa will help you select the colors you need according to your still life.
    • Thinner and medium: Either Gamsol and Galkyd (preferred) or Walnut oil
    • Walnut oil medium
    • Palette knife
    • Palette (flat, can be disposable, gray matters)
    • Rags, paper towels
    • Retouch varnish (I use the spray)

    Join artist and owner of The Art Stop Cindy Corrigan, in this painting class for ages 9+.  Learn about different mediums and how they create different effects. Creative Art Class is a prerequisite or the confidence to sketch out your canvas. The instructor will help if needed with sketch. This class is strictly acrylics, but the subject matter is up to the student.

    • Supplies

    • No Battat or Liquitex Basics paints, if you do not have any acrylics, hold off until you know the subject matter, then you can choose from open stock
    • Sketching pad, pencils, charcoals or conte` crayons for tonal sketch

    Young artists will enjoy this lighthearted class. A huge variety of projects makes this class fun over and over again. Basic art concepts are introduced at an age-appropriate level, preparing the student for creative art class, when they are ready. A smock or apron is recommended for this class.

    In this class, students learn to draw what they see. Proportion, perspective, composition, basic forms, negative space, and tonal value are emphasized. Pencil, charcoal, pastel and paint are used. Students will be given projects based on their ability. Class limit: 12

Find out which medium is right for you without making the investment into supplies you may never use again. This class will explore graphite pencil, watercolor, colored pencil, acrylics, oils and pastels. If you would like to try out just one of the mediums, you can do that too, for $25 you can take just one 2 hour class with supplies included.     Join accomplished artist and instructor Kaylinda Shuhart in this wonderful media. She will show you the layering structure, and techniques including salt resist, masking fluid, lifting and more, all in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Kaylinda will work with the class as a group and spend time individually with each student. Beginner to intermediate. Teen-Adult. Supplies: Bring something to do a tonal sketch & your watercolor supplies, Kaylinda will go through supplies with you and let you know if you need anything additional on the first class.

Learn about the many different mediums and what they can do for you to enhance your paintings. Learn about working with color, contrast, composition and negative space, all in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Beginner to Intermediate. Supplies: Bring something to do a tonal study (if you want to transfer your sketch onto your canvas, make your paper the same size as the canvas you wish to paint) Reference material is optional, we have many photo reference as well as still life material. Bring the acrylic supplies you have and Cindy will go through your supplies with you to see if you need anything additional after she sees your subject matter. No Liquitex Basics or paints from a Batat set.
