The Art Stop LLC is a fine art supply store with a custom frame shop, art gallery, and a studio for art lessons for adults and children. We are proud to be a locally owned, small business in Penfield, NY. Fully employed by artists, we offer art lessons and classes for a variety of different interests. We also have Stop, Paint & Sip workshops where we provide all art supplies and instruction for acrylic paintings, alcohol ink on tile or acrylic pours! Art camp, and private events, are also conducted in our studio.
10% Discount for Seniors (65 or older), Multiple Family Member & Consecutive Class Sign-ups, just ask! Discount is for weekly lessons, not on all inclusive Stop, Paint & Sip Workshops.

–5 weeks $139Anne Jurgens, award winning artist and certified instructor, will lead you through the wonders of watercolor. This class is intended for beginning and intermediate students with emphasis on expressing ourselves with paint. Beginning students will learn basic watercolor techniques including how to apply flat washes, graded washes, and glazes, wet in wet and dry brushing techniques. We will learn about composition, values, line, and color as elements in a painting. For intermediate students who wish to choose their own subjects, instruction will be individualized.- You can read the artist’s bio and see more of her work in the Gallery section.
- Paper: Arches 11×14 100% rag, 140 Cold Press. and/ or Strathmore Series 500 mixed media
- Brushes: Sable is best. Synthetic is okay Rounds #1, #5, #8 Flats: 1/2 inch, 1 inch, 2 inch, Rigger
- Water Container – One for clear, one to clean brushes can be as simple as a couple of
cottage cheese containers. - Paper towels – to soak up excess water
- Pencil – #2
- Pallet : Make it large enough to hold 16 colors and have space to mix paints
- Paints: Here are the basics. You can buy more, but we can build almost any color
from these.. - These consist of both cool and warm in the primary colors enabling us to
be able to make the colors we need. Buy your colors In tubes or in cubes. Any brand,
except where noted you usually get better results with Professional grade, you can use Cotman when brand isn’t noted. - Yellows: Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Yellow Ochre, Raw Sienna*
Reds: Cadmium Red Light, Cadmium Red Medium, Alizarine Crimson, Permanent Rose

Can’t draw but want to? Can draw but want to get better? In this class you will use pencil, charcoal, and pastel to learn basic forms, one and two point perspective, negative space, tonal value and proportion. Use these fundamentals to draw anything. Drawing accurately is the basis for all other fine art mediums. You need to be able to accurately sketch out your canvas or paper before going on the next step.

Learn to create and elevate your own original characters with illustrator Jocelyn Seib. Understand the process of developing a unique character and their environment in this fun-filled course. Enjoy viewing behind-the-scenes work from masters, and taking inspiration both from them and each other as your character designing abilities flourish, side by side.

Explore a loose, expressive watercolor style with a few carefully chosen details. Each class includes demonstrations, guided practice, and individual encouragement to help you grow comfortable with your brushes.
What We’ll Paint Each Week
Week 1 — Color Play, Leaves & Flowers
Get to know your brushes, practice water control, and discover simple color mixing. Turn easy leaf and petal strokes into a cheerful floral study.Week 2 — Beautiful Skies & Soft Clouds
Watch colors flow with wet-on-wet painting! Learn to blend sky washes, lift soft clouds, and add a simple landscape beneath your sky.Week 3 — Autumn Colors & Landscapes
Mix golden yellows, warm oranges, and rich reds. Paint fall trees and foliage while exploring layers, depth, and dry-brush texture.Week 4 — A Cozy Pumpkin Still Life
Bring a pumpkin to life with glowing color, curved brushstrokes, and gentle shadows. Add a stem and a few leaves to complete your autumn painting.Week 5 — A Charming Robin on a Branch

Any brand is welcome. If you already own watercolor paints, bring close color equivalents.
Watercolor brushes
- Small round brush: size 1 or 2
- Medium round brush: size 5 or 6
- Flat brush: 1inch 1 1/2 inch
- Choose one brush from each size option; you do not need both. A 1-inch flat brush is easier to manage for smaller paintings.
Detail tools
- Waterproof fine-tip pen, 0.5 mm, black or brown
- White gel pen or white gouache for small highlights
Paper and other supplies
- Cold-press watercolor paper, 140 lb / 300 gsm, approximately 8 × 10 or 9 × 12 inches
- Extra watercolor paper for practice
- Mixing palette
- Two water containers
- Paper towels or a clean absorbent cloth
- Pencil and eraser
- Masking tape and a firm painting board
- Leave with your own watercolor studies and paintings—and skills you can keep exploring at home.

Private lessons available starting at $40 an hour for drawing lessons & $50 an hour for painting lessons, minimum 2 hours. Home school classes also available! Please call us and ask for Cindy to set up the class.
Team Building Workshops

Cancellation Policy: There will be no refund if cancellation isn’t at least 5 business days prior to first class. There will be a $10 administration fee for cancellation. Medical exceptions require a doctors note stating that you are physically unable to attend.
Behavior problems deemed sufficiently disruptive will result in a child’s removal from a class, no refunds are made in these cases. For all children’s classes, kids should bring a smock/old shirt. Classes may be cancelled at the discretion of The Art Stop LLC if class minimums are not met.
