     Saturday June 14th 2025, 9:30-4:30

    Cost $80

Join this Saturday workshop and paint this old barn by the water. In the morning, Paul will provide a profile drawing and a color sample of the image. He will guide you through blocking in and final shape creation. Specific details of the painting will be discussed. ‘ It’s important to get the drawing correct so our paintings look their best.

After lunch, you start painting. Paul will demonstrate each phase that you will work on when he’s done. “You watch, then do.”

The class runs from 9:30-4:30 with a one-hour lunch. Clean up is at 3:30 with an evaluation session until 4:30.

    • Materials List:
    • Watercolor paper: Arches 140 lb Cold Pressed. Two pieces 11 x 15.
Buy a full sheet 22 x 30 and cut it into quarters.
    • PAINT: Bring tubes of paint, not pans or dried out paint. This is most important. We will use three colors.
    • Prussian Blue, Cadmium Red Light, Cad Yellow Medium
    • BRUSHES:  FLATS: ½”, ¾”, 1”1-1/2” ROUNDS: #6, #8, #4 Liner brush.
    • Note about purchasing brushes: Flat brushes are best when the length and width are equal. Longer brush hairs are too floppy when wet. Preferrable brands are Richeson, Winsor Newton, and Blick.
    • PALETTE: The better palettes have a cover. A white ceramic plate will suffice foregoing a palette. Plates can be found at a dollar store or thrift shops. It’s important to have a generous mixing area.
    • PAPER SUPPORT PANEL: (Very important) 16” x 23”. Nonabsorbent. The best materials are Plexiglas or sealed wood. Another option is a 16 x 23 painting panel for oils without canvas.
    • CLIPS: Four (4) “Bulldog” clips or large stationary clips. No tape is necessary
    • DRAWING PAPER: Anything equal or larger than 11 x 15 for the preliminary drawing phase.
    • Another option but not necessary: A dry eraser board of the similar size. Look up Scribbledoo via Amazon, 12 x 16 blank boards. Again, it’s just an option but useful otherwise.

    OTHER INCIDENTALS:

    • Paper towels
    • Clean hand towel
    • Cellulose sponge
    • 2H pencil
    • Soft eraser
    • Two plastic water containers
