Can’t draw but want to? Can draw but want to get better? In this class you will use pencil, charcoal, and pastel to learn basic forms, one and two point perspective, negative space, tonal value and proportion. Use these fundamentals to draw anything. Drawing accurately is the basis for all other fine art mediums. You need to be able to accurately sketch out your canvas or paper before going on the next step.

    Flower City Figure Study is a Fun & Friendly Drawing Group that meets every Monday Night (6-9pm). We are dedicated to trying to capture the nude human figure on paper - Artists of all levels and abilities are welcome! We meet in the upstairs 3000 sq. ft. studio of The Art Stop, located at 1822 Penfield Road, Penfield, NY 14526.
    The Studio can handle up to 30 artists - 12 work stations in the form of a drawing horse-style bench as well as adjustable easels and tables with chairs. We provide drawing boards and personal lighting for your use in the studio or you are always welcome to bring your own. Artists should bring their own paper and drawing medium and/or come early and get these at The Art Stop prior to a session.
    Currently we rotate thru 15 male and female models of all shapes and sizes to give variety to the artists to study and capture in artistic form. Poses start with quick gesture and then move on to short poses of 5-15 minutes and then longer poses of 20-35 minutes.
    Cost:
    $7/Hr ($20 for the whole night)
    $6/Hr Paid in Advance ($18 for the whole night)
    $5/Session Student Rate with a Valid ID.
    Paid in Advance Savings Punch cards can be purchased in advance/at the door and also be used the same night.
    $55 (which covers 3 full sessions) or $90 (which covers 5 full sessions)
    Punch Cards can also be used on an hourly basis.

    Learn to create and elevate your own original characters with illustrator Jocelyn Seib. Understand the process of developing a unique character and their environment in this fun-filled course. Enjoy viewing behind-the-scenes work from masters, and taking inspiration both from them and each other as your character designing abilities flourish, side by side.

    Supplies:

    • A drawing tablet and software (Optional)

    • Sketchbook (7”x10” or bigger)

    • Graphite Pencils

    • Pen Liner Set

    • White Plastic Eraser

    • Your preferred coloring medium (pencils, markers, watercolor, etc.)

    Your Child will be able to Experience many different mediums, doing a Large Variety of Projects. such as; Pallet knife Painting, Landscapes, Cartooning, Flip Books, Stamping and more! Campers will use different, exciting mediums including: Acrylics, Clay, Gouache, Watercolor, Pastels, Marker, Colored Pencil and more!      Introduction to Oil Painting with Cold Wax Medium

    Discover the possibilities of oil painting with cold wax medium in this two-session workshop. Through demonstrations and hands-on exercises, you'll learn the fundamentals of using cold wax medium with oil paint to create rich textures, expressive marks, and luminous surfaces. We'll explore layering, mark-making, and the use of a variety of tools to build your paintings. This workshop is perfect for beginners curious about cold wax as well as painters looking to expand their creative process. Basic oil painting experience is helpful but not required.

    • Materials List: Introduction to Oil Painting & Cold Wax Medium

      Paints

      Oil paints in at least basic colors

      • Titanium White
      • Ultramarine Blue
      • Napthol Red or Cadmium Red Light (or Pyrrole Red)
      • Hansa Yellow Light or Cadmium Yellow Light

      Optional:

      • Yellow Ochre
      • Burnt Sienna
       (Note: You can use water miscible oils but solvents will be needed for cleanup once the wax medium is added.)

      Medium

      • Cold Wax Medium   Gamblin or Dorland

      Painting Surfaces

      Bring 3–5 rigid panels, 8" × 10", 9" × 12", or 11" × 14"

      • Cradled wood panels, gessoed hardboard, or ACM panels are all suitable.
      • Oil painting paper
      • Stretched canvas is not recommended for cold wax painting.

      Tools

      • Palette knives for mixing paint and for mark-making
      • Silicone wedges or catalyst tools (optional but recommended)
      • Plastic gift cards, old credit cards, or bowl scrapers
      • Brayer (2" or 4" soft rubber brayer)
      • One or two inexpensive natural-bristle brushes (1"–2")
      • Disposable palette paper or palette pad or a glass palette (approximately 9" × 12" or larger)

      Drawing & Mark-Making Tools

      Bring a selection of tools for creating texture, such as:

      • Graphite pencil
      • Bamboo skewer
      • Clay or pottery tools
      • Wire or rubber texture tools
      • Bubble wrap, mesh, lace, or other found texture materials (optional)

      Mediums

      • Odorless mineral spirit (such as Gamsol)
      • Vegetable oil or other brush-cleaning oil
      • Small containers for cleaning oil and Gamsol
      • Paper towels or cotton rags
      • Nitrile gloves (optional)

      Additional Supplies

      • Apron or painting shirt
      • Notebook/sketchbook/journal and pencil for notes
      • Reference photos or sketches (optional)

    Join Accomplished Instructor Colette Savage in this versatile beautiful medium. Get a beautiful softness similar to a Degas', or photographic realism. Pastels are considered a form of painting, yet you have the control of a stick or pencil, making it more like drawing. Learn about different substrates to paint on and different types of pastels and how they react. Beginner to intermediate.  Please feel free to bring along any pastels, paper...which you currently own to our first class.  A materials list is attached, but DO NOT purchase any new materials until AFTER the first class.

    • Soft Pastels- Your choice of brands, with a large assortment of colors and value (dark and light). If you already own pastels, bring what you have.
    • Pastel Paper- Your choice of brand and type
    • Drawing Board- A piece of Masonite is fine
    • Masking Tape
    • Baby Wipes
    • Pencil
    • Eraser
    • Small disposable dish to place the pastels you are using
    • Glove in a Bottle- Or another type of barrier lotion
    • Several reference photos
    • Glassine of other smooth paper-used to cover and protect the painting

    Optional Items:

    • Inexpensive craft brush

    Young artists will enjoy this lighthearted class. A huge variety of projects makes this class fun over and over again. Basic art concepts are introduced at an age-appropriate level, preparing the student for creative art class, when they are ready. A smock or apron is recommended for this class. Class limit 10

    • 1 set Cray-Pas any size, or 6 or 12 set of Playcolor (dry tempera sticks)
