An application to Art School or College invariably requires a portfolio submission, but most high school art programs do not cover the elements of college-level study, and many times neglect drawing from life. This workshop fills that void with college faculty giving the experience junior & senior students need to move forward. This is an opportunity to actually experience 6 classes taught by college-level professors – learn what a professional drawing session is like, practice and execute completed artworks of
the human figure. Make your portfolio stand out with a section displaying your skills drawing the human figure!
Each session will simulate an actual college class which typically meet for 3 hours. Professors will run the sessions as they would their own class at college, giving students exposure to different styles of teaching. This time includes general instruction, drawing demonstrations, one- on-one direct instruction, substantial drawing time and individual/group artwork critiques per session. Three of the sessions will be dedicated to specific concentrations: Proportion of the Human Figure, Portrait and Hands/Feet and Portrait.
Space in this workshop is offered on a first-come first-served basis, so it is wise to register early – your full payment reserves your spot. Cost for the 3 day workshop is $400. Please note, there are no refunds.
We are limiting attendance to 18 students, the size of a typical college class. This workshop is intended for high school students (juniors and seniors) preparing their portfolios for application to Art School/ College/University. However, as of June 1, 2025, the workshop will be opened to the general public. A unique opportunity like this is not offered in our community and we expect that both professional and novice artists of all ages who are interested in serious study of the human figure will fill up the remainder of the workshop. Cut off for sign up will be Monday, June 16, 2025
Practice, practice, practice – Practice makes perfect is not just a saying, but has been proven to make you better over time! In addition to the workshop, students will receive a free coupon to attend a session of Flower City Figure Study which meets every
Monday night from 6-9pm. If a student would like to attend more Monday Night sessions, the price is $5 per night for students. For more information about Flower City Figure Study Monday Night sessions, please sign up for the weekly email and/or join the
