Cancelled due to weather conditions. We follow the Penfield school district school closings, they have cancelled all after school activities which means we close our evening classes. Daytime classes are cancelled when school is cancelled. We add an extra class to the end of the session, changes are reflected on our calendar.

Learn about different mediums and how they create different effects. Creative Art Class is a prerequisite or the confidence to sketch out your canvas. The instructor will help if needed with sketch. This class is strictly acrylics, but the subject matter is up to the student.
- Supplies
- flat palette
- palette knife
- paper towels or rags
- No Battat or Liquitex Basics paints, if you do not have any acrylics, hold off until you know the subject matter, then you can choose from open stock
- Sketching pad, pencils, charcoals or conte` crayons for tonal sketch
- You may bring your own reference photo or you can wait until class starts and look through reference material in the studio

Have you always been drawn to the beauty of watercolor painting? Linda Serway Bordwell is a local watercolor artist who will provide a comfortable class where you can learn about this medium. Suggested materials:
• 1 full sheet of Arches Cold press 140 lb paper or 9 x 12 watercolor block
• Transparent watercolors: French Ultramarine Blue, Quinacridone Red,
Hansa Yellow
• Flat watercolor brushes: 1 1/2” and 3/4”
• Round brushes: 5,10,12 and 14 and a rigger
• Water container
• Sketch pad, pencils and gum eraser for sketching
• Palette with wells
• Paper towels
• Masking tape or clips
• Painting board (larger than paper and rigid enough to resist flexing)
If you do not have any paints or brushes, you can wait until the 1st class to see what colors you will need, defendant on your subject matter and you can purchase from open stock the colors you need

Anne Jurgens, award winning artist and certified instructor, will lead you through the wonders of watercolor. This class is intended for beginning and intermediate students with emphasis on expressing ourselves with paint. Beginning students will learn basic watercolor techniques including how to apply flat washes, graded washes, and glazes, wet in wet and dry brushing techniques. We will earn about composition, values, line, and color as elements in a painting. For intermediate students who wish to choose their own subjects, instruction will be individualized.- You can read the artist’s bio and see more of her work in the Gallery section.
Supply List:
- Paper: Arches 11×14 100% rag, 140 Cold Press, watercolor paper in a 5×7 or 6×8 pad or block or 1 sheet of Arches 140# watercolor to cut into smaller pieces
- Brushes: Sable is best. Synthetic is okay Rounds #1, #5, #8 Flats: 1/2 inch, 1 inch, 2 inch, Rigger
- Water Container – One for clear, one to clean brushes can be as simple as a couple of
cottage cheese containers.
- Paper towels – to soak up excess water
- Pencil – #2
- Pallet : Make it large enough to hold 16 colors and have space to mix paints
- Paints: Here are the basics. You can buy more, but we can build almost any color
from these..
- These consist of both cool and warm in the primary colors enabling us to
be able to make the colors we need..Buy your colors In tubes or in cubes. Any brand,
except where noted you usually get better results with Professional grade, you can use Cotman when brand isn’t noted.
- Yellows: Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Yellow Ochre, Raw Sienna*
Reds: Cadmium Red Light, Cadmium Red Medium, Alizarine Crimson, Permanent Rose
Blues: Cobalt Blue, Winsor Newton Ultramarine Blue
