A Beginners Guide to Painting in Watercolor

Have you always been drawn to the beauty of watercolor painting? Linda Serway Bordwell is a local watercolor artist who will provide a comfortable class where you can learn about this medium. (This session will be taught by Anne Jurgens due to injury) You will be guided along from preparation, demonstration, practice, discussion and group critique.

 

Suggested materials:
  • 1 full sheet of Arches Cold press 140 lb paper or 9 x 12 watercolor block
  • Transparent watercolors: French Ultramarine Blue, Quinacridone Red, Hansa Yellow or Windsor Yellow
  • Flat watercolor brushes: 1 1/2” and 3/4”
  • Round brushes: 5,10,12 and 14 and a rigger
  • Water container
  • Sketch pad, pencils and gum eraser for sketching
  • Palette with wells
  • Paper towels
  • Masking tape or clips
  • Painting board (larger than paper and rigid enough to resist flexing

If you do not have any paints or brushes, you can wait until the 1st class to see what colors you will need, defendant on your subject matter and you can purchase from open stock the colors you need

Unclothed Model, come and join other artists and keep your skills honed in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. No instruction is included in the open draw price, if you want instruction you can take the Life Drawing class that runs on Thursdays as well. You can bring your own refreshments.

Not sure what media will become your favorite? This class is a great way to explore 6 different mediums, a different medium each week. Find out which medium is right for you without making the investment into supplies you may never use again. This class will explore different forms of graphite, carbon and charcoal, watercolor, colored pencil, acrylics, oils and pastels.

Pastel Painting with Colette Savage

Join Accomplished Instructor Colette Savage in this versatile beautiful medium. Get a beautiful softness similar to a Degas’, or photographic realism. Pastels are considered a form of painting, yet you have the control of a stick or pencil, making it more like drawing. Learn about different substrates to paint on and different types of pastels and how they react. Beginner to intermediate.  Please feel free to bring along any pastels, paper…which you currently own to our first class.  A materials list is attached, but DO NOT purchase any new materials until AFTER the first class.

  • Soft Pastels- Your choice of brands, with a large assortment of colors and value (dark and light). If you already own pastels, bring what you have.
  • Pastel Paper- Your choice of brand and type
  • Drawing Board- A piece of Masonite is fine
  • Masking Tape
  • Baby Wipes
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Small disposable dish to place the pastels you are using
  • Glove in a Bottle- Or another type of barrier lotion
  • Several reference photos
  • Glassine of other smooth paper-used to cover and protect the painting

Optional Items:

  • Inexpensive craft brush
  • Rubbing Alcohol

Teen to Adult Acrylic Painting Class

Join Artist and owner of The Art Stop, Cindy Corrigan, to explore the many possibilities at your fingertips when you paint with acrylics. Learn about the many different mediums and what they can do for you to enhance your paintings. Learn about working with color, contrast, composition and negative space, all in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Beginner to Intermediate. Supplies: Bring something to do a tonal study (if you want to transfer your sketch onto your canvas, make your paper the same size as the canvas you wish to paint) Reference material is optional, we have many photo reference as well as still life material. Bring the acrylic supplies you have and Cindy will go through your supplies with you to see if you need anything additional after she sees your subject matter. No Liquitex Basics or paints from a Batat set.
