Paint from your own sketches, photos, or studio still life. Oil Stick Landscape Painting with Melissa Talma: Expand your painting horizons with oil sticks, a truly unique art medium! Oil sticks combine the soft blendable or thick impasto effects possible with oil paint, but with the advantage of a much quicker drying time and a tactile experience similar to using pastels. Learn to mix a wide range of colors as well as a variety of techniques for applying these pigmented solid paint sticks while creating your own beautiful landscape painting. This medium allows for experimentation and a multitude of applications!

    •  Shiva paint sticks: Basic set of 6 colors (available at The Art Stop)
    •  an 11″x14″ primed canvas OR 11″x14″ primed smooth painting panel
    •  brushes: 3 to 5 small beat-up brushes someone might already own (sizes 4, 6, 8 work best), or to purchase: small inexpensive “Chisel Blenders” are best, or flat shaders in any size from 4-8 or 1/8″ to 1/4″ size. Also, a small (like size 1 or 2) round or liner brush for details is helpful.

    • a small jar of artist’s walnut or linseed oil
    • Gamsol (preferably in a jar with lid)
